Alma

The town of Alma takes a unique title for being the highest incorporated town on the continent. In fact, Alma is located at an elevation of 10,578 feet. The small mountain community is surrounded by impressive peaks, many of which are upwards of 14,000 feet tall. Alma got its start as a mining town. The area was incredibly rich in gold and other precious commodities. Today, there are still a number of active mines in the area. If you are searching for a charming mountain town that is totally immersed in natural beauty, Alma is a good fit.

Explore Alma Real Estate

The majority of the Alma real estate market is characterized by single-family houses. Prices tend to be affordable. Alma homes for sale begin in price around $200,000. With three or four bedrooms and floor plans over 1,000 square feet, these houses can be a great option for families.

On the high end of the market, a home might sell for more than a million. These exclusive estates often unfold over thousands of square feet. Many of them look like decadent alpine cottages. With log exteriors and steeply pitched tin roofs, they have a classic mountain aesthetic. Inside, you might expect to see top-of-the-line finishes, his-and-hers sinks, walk-in closets, and high-end appliances. These houses tend to be quite expansive, encompassing several bedrooms. This makes them great places for entertaining.

Lifestyle in Alma

Alma is a great place for those who love to hike. With plenty of nearby mountains worth exploring, it can be hard to decide where to start. Because of the town's elevation, Alma tends to remain relatively cool throughout the year.

The majority of Alma residents commute to Summit County for work. Alma is within half an hour from Breckenridge, where opportunities for work, skiing, and recreation can be found. Children in the community are bussed to the town of Fairplay, just south of Alma.

Alma has a long and interesting history. It is still close to its roots as a mining town, and much can be learned about the miners who once lived there and how the town has changed over the years.
